Rhombus Power is building FP&A capabilities to support the next stage of growth, and the team is looking for a hands-on, ownership-minded Financial Planning & Analysis Manager. This HQ-based role in Palo Alto will help strengthen budgeting, forecasting, modeling, reporting, and dashboarding while partnering closely with Sales, customer teams, Accounting, and business owners in a fast-paced environment.
Role Overview
In this position, you will build and maintain integrated financial models, produce rolling forecasts, and translate business inputs into driver-based planning. You will also lead variance analysis, improve FP&A systems, and deliver clear performance narratives through monthly and quarterly reviews and business intelligence dashboards. The work includes tracking bookings and ARR mechanics, distinguishing recurring software revenue from implementation and services, and incorporating government contract funding and invoicing milestones into forecast assumptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the creation, maintenance, and execution of the annual corporate budget in partnership with department leaders across revenue, headcount, infrastructure, and operating expenses.
- Maintain monthly and quarterly rolling forecasts using integrated three-statement models (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow).
- Develop driver-based forecasts tied to sales pipeline, contract start dates, implementation schedules, renewals, and expansion.
- Run scenario analysis and financial modeling to stress-test growth assumptions, including delayed awards, longer sales cycles, customer concentration, and accelerated hiring.
- Track bookings, ARR, recognized revenue, billings, and cash collections, with clear separation of recurring software revenue from implementation and services.
- Partner with Sales and customer teams on renewals, expansion, churn, and pipeline conversion, explaining revenue drivers and forecast confidence.
- Incorporate government contract funding, periods of performance, option-year assumptions, award timing, and invoicing milestones into forecasting.
- Model cash and resource implications of procurement or payment delays by distinguishing funded commitments from potential contract value.
- Assist with contract and deal reviews, including pricing, margin, payment-term, and delivery-cost analysis.
- Perform monthly actual-versus-budget and actual-versus-forecast variance analysis, identify underlying drivers, and recommend actions.
- Review general ledger details to spot misclassifications or unexpected spending trends and partner with Accounting to resolve discrepancies.
- Track corporate cash burn, working capital metrics, and primary efficiency ratios on a daily or weekly cadence, as appropriate.
- Maintain workforce models covering approved positions, hiring dates, compensation, benefits, contractors, and vacancies, partnering with Recruiting and department leaders.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reviews that explain performance, forecast changes, and emerging risks in business terms.
- Build, update, and maintain BI dashboards tracking financial and operational KPIs.
- Create data-driven schedules, trend charts, and commentary for monthly business review decks and board reporting support.
- Clean and structure historical operational datasets to improve forecasting precision.
- Support development projects, ROI analyses, pricing reviews, and unit economics updates, including product investments and expansion opportunities.
- Identify and implement automation for manual data collection and recurring reporting workflows.
- Help build FP&A core models, planning calendar, reporting standards, and tools as business needs evolve.
What You Bring
- Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, including direct responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis, preferably in a small or midsize B2B SaaS environment.
- Enterprise sales-cycle experience and meaningful exposure to implementation and delivery costs are ideal.
- Experience working on lean teams with demonstrated ownership from gathering inputs through presenting findings and following up with business owners and executives.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, experience building integrated three-statement and driver-based models, and strong accounting fundamentals.
- Understanding of SaaS revenue mechanics and metrics, including ARR, retention, bookings, revenue recognition, and gross margin.
- Experience developing BI dashboards and reconciling financial and operational datasets; SQL and workflow automation skills are a plus.
- Ability to build planning models, reporting, or processes from scratch and translate incomplete information into clearly documented assumptions.
- Creative problem-solving, flexibility, and sound judgment, including the ability to adapt quickly while preserving accuracy and making uncertainty visible.
- Strong communication skills with confidence to question assumptions constructively with technical, commercial, and executive stakeholders.
