Job Description

DOPE MARKETING is hiring a Financial Controller to take ownership of core financial operations for a $28M+ business. This hybrid role in the Twin Cities is hands-on and fast-moving, with a focus on accurate month-end execution, clear leadership reporting, and building more automated, paperless processes.

You will run AP and AR, drive the monthly close during the first 5–7 business days of each month, and translate financial data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders. The role also requires strong reconciliation discipline across multiple bank and credit card accounts and an aptitude for creating original reporting that helps leadership make decisions.

  • Ensure expense tracking and budget monitoring stays within approved guidelines.
  • Coordinate with an external bookkeeping team and financial advisors on month-end close.
  • Maintain clean, organized financial records in accounting systems.
  • Support debt management tracking and cash flow monitoring.
  • Build and continuously improve automated, paperless financial processes.
  • Present financial information clearly to non-finance leaders, translating numbers into decisions.
  • Meet regularly with report users to confirm the data is understood and actionable.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful time in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role.
  • Prior experience as a staff accountant or senior accountant before stepping into controller-level responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated history of stability, including sustained tenure at each employer.
  • Experience working across a mix of business sizes (mid-market and larger companies, or private and corporate environments).
  • Audit experience is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (not Finance) required.
  • CPA preferred, not required.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency.
  • QuickBooks experience required.
  • Experience with accrual-based accounting and solid working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience designing original financial reports.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with self-directed work style.
