Enterprise Architect, Finance & Legal Systems

In this hybrid role in Chicago, Okta is seeking an Enterprise Architect for Finance & Legal Systems to define and deliver technology architecture strategy across Finance and Legal functions. The position focuses on modernizing enterprise systems, shaping solution and data architecture, and enabling AI-driven automation and predictive insights across core business processes.

Role scope

The architect will lead solution architecture and integration efforts spanning ERP, FP&A, Legal, and Sales Compensation systems. The work includes building an enterprise-aligned target state, establishing modernization roadmaps, and ensuring scalable, secure, and compliant technology foundations using identity-first security principles integrated with Okta and other IAM solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define the target-state architecture for Finance and Legal applications, aligned to enterprise strategy and growth objectives.
• Lead end-to-end architectural design and implementation for Finance and Legal systems, focusing on integration, scalability, and performance.
• Develop and maintain a multi-year modernization roadmap across ERP, FP&A, Legal, and Sales Compensation systems.
• Design systems with identity-first security, integrating with Okta and other IAM solutions for authentication, authorization, and compliance.
• Architect and implement AI/ML-driven capabilities for finance and legal processes, including predictive forecasting, anomaly detection, spend optimization, contract risk scoring, and intelligent reconciliation.
• Partner with the Enterprise AI team to operationalize AI/ML Solution models within G&A functions to align with business outcomes.
• Ensure seamless data flow across ERP (NetSuite/Oracle), Coupa, Scout, Anaplan, Conga, and Xactly using APIs and middleware (Boomi), including unified data models for analytics and AI consumption.
• Identify opportunities to embed generative AI, NLP, and LLM capabilities into core Finance and Legal workflows such as financial reporting, close management, reconciliation, contract lifecycle management, and legal document automation.
• Lead hands-on proof of concepts (POCs) and AI-driven automations to reduce manual effort.
• Pilot, prototype, and demo new solutions and technologies, including AI and automation.
• Collaborate with Finance, Legal, IT, Data, Compliance, Security, and Engineering teams to translate business objectives into scalable, secure solutions.
• Advise Finance, Legal, Compliance, Security, and Engineering leaders on technology roadmaps aligned with Okta business priorities.
• Translate complex SaaS finance and legal requirements (including revenue recognition, contract risk management, and GDPR) into technical solutions.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on Finance and Legal technology trends such as subscription/usage-based billing, AI contract analytics, and compliance automation.
• Support and lead implementations and enhancements of ERP systems (Oracle, NetSuite, Coupa, Scout, Anaplan) and legal tools (Conga, DocuSign).
• Establish governance frameworks for data privacy, SOX compliance, and access control across Finance and Legal systems.
• Support rollouts of Data Governance by collaborating with Data Governance, business stakeholders, and data warehousing teams.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field.
• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time as an Architect or Principal across ERP systems (Oracle/NetSuite/SAP), FP&A systems (Anaplan), and/or CLM systems (Aptus/Conga/Ironclad).
• Demonstrated enterprise architecture experience with multiple ERP full-cycle implementations (Oracle or NetSuite).
• Deep understanding of Finance business process areas including Order to Cash, Record to Report, Source to Pay, Plan to Report (FP&A), Treasury, Credit Collection, Revenue Recognition, and Subscription Billing, plus Contract Life Cycle Management within Legal Ops.
• Hands-on experience architecting functional and technical solutions within major business applications, including NetSuite (or Oracle), Aptus/Conga (or Ironclad), Anaplan, Coupa, Scout, and tax engines (Avalara, Vertex, OneSource) with knowledge of data models and APIs for integrations.
• Experience architecting AI Agents using leading LLMs such as Gemini, OpenAI, or Claude.
• Experience with software and vendor selection aligned to end-state architecture.
• Proficiency with middleware such as MuleSoft, Workato, Boomi, or Informatica for connecting Finance, Legal, CRM, and data platforms.
• Familiarity with code, configuration, and system performance standards/reviews to ensure quality, scalability, and compliance with enterprise standards.
• Proficiency with AWS, Azure, or GCP and knowledge of data lakes/warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) for SaaS revenue and compliance analytics.
• Identity and security knowledge including SSO, OAuth, SAML, SCIM, and Zero Trust, with hands-on integration experience in Okta or similar IAM platforms.
• Occasional travel to office locations is expected for project and team collaboration meetings and organization offsites.
• Passion for innovation, AI adoption, and continuous improvement aligned with Okta’s mission.

Additional qualifications

• TOGAF or similar Enterprise Architecture certification is a plus.
• Excellent storytelling and communication skills, comfortable presenting to both technical and executive stakeholders.

Compensation and location

• Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid)
• Compensation: USD 236,000 - 324,500 per year
